Homebound and Safe and Sound

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers in support of Micol's brother Brian. He has just returned home from a year in Iraq. During his tour of duty, Brian was injured in an explosion, but came through it just fine. He received a Purple Heart in recognition of his bravery and service. It's great to have him home safe and to know that he will be here for our wedding.

The young lady pictured with Brian is Cheryl Hamilton. Cheryl is Brian's girlfriend and was a fellow classmate and graduate from West Point. They have both been serving in Iraq this past year. Cheryl, who was due home only weeks after Brian's return, has just received word that she will be one of the many young soldiers called up to extend their stay for another four months. She was going to be a bridesmaid at our wedding, so it makes the news even a little tougher to take. But duty calls and she is a soldier, so we are supposed to understand and accept that this is one of the many sacrifices for war.

We need to keep all of the young men and women of the war in our prayers. When one wave comes out another group of soldiers rotate in. Unfortunately, it's an ongoing battle and not one that will be easily won. War is never a solution; it's simply an unfortunate consequence of evil, taken in an effort to promote peace.

Birthday Bash

I will be spending yet another birthday on a film set. This makes my 7th in a row. But hey, I'm not complaining. It's good to be a working actor! Since I had to head to Vancouver for The Colt before my big day, this is my 21st; we made sure we had a big bash before I left. The day started with tux fittings with my groomsmen and the dads. From there we headed off to Hooters for a VIP wing party and to watch the big game. After that, we guys met up with the rest of the family and friends for a celebration at Chelleno's, my favorite Mexican restaurant, in the heart of OKC's Bricktown on the canal. It was a great night and the perfect send off for me. It's hard to leave and go on location, but the send offs and welcome homes are always great.

The Canyon Really Is Grand

On the road trip home from LA, Micol and I decided to take the two our detour north of I-40 to the Grand Canyon. I was a little road weary and not sure it was worth the stop, but arriving at the Canyon at sunset made it all worthwhile. It's not just a hole in the ground! I've seen it in movies and pictures, but there is something pretty cool about standing on the edge of it.
