As we continue to remember our heroes and fallen heroes during this time of war…

Remember that you too can be a hero by simply looking around, finding someone who needs help and helping them.

In big and small ways we can all make a difference.

During the month of August, Micol and I camped out in the Hollywood hills while I took a series of film and television meetings and shot Ring 2. Considering we had only been in our new home for a week after we were married, we were pretty anxious to get back to OKC and really settle in as a couple. After a month in LA, I was ready to touch base back home.

THE RESULTS - The trip was definitely worth it. While we were in town I got to escort my beautiful wife to her first premiere as Mrs. Merriman. We walked the red carpet together and I was proud to have her at my side. We had a great time attending the newest Disney original film Tiger Cruise and I got to catch up with a lot of my old Disney friends.

Another highlight of the trip was attending this year's Teen Choice Awards at the Universal Amphitheater. What a great night. I was really excited to see Lindsey Lohan get the fans vote and claim her surfboard. She's a great actress and I love her energy. I've auditioned for roles in some of her films, but it just hasn't worked out for us to come together in a project….yet! The whole scene was wild and the music was awesome. Hope you all caught it when it aired.

Shooting Ring 2 was the best. Everyone on set was great. I had the chance to meet and work with Emily VanCamp from WB's Everwood. She's Great and we had a lot of fun working with each other and hanging out together. It would be good to work with her again.

"Spin" got kicked into gear with a photo shoot. Production flew Paula Garces into LA and we met up for a photo shoot to create a new look for the poster that will promote "Spin" to the young adult audience. Be sure to look for its release this fall. I'll be in Provo, Utah at the Carmike Wynnsong 12 Theater on Saturday, October 9th at 5 p.m. for a special charity screening of "Spin", which will be releasing in select theaters at the same time. Log onto www.smithstix.com to register for tickets and plan to attend if you are in the area. All ticket proceeds will benefit Jamie Redford's foundation supporting organ transplants. On October 15th, I'm off to Tucson for a special screening being hosted by the Tucson Film Commission to kick off the opening of "Spin" there. If it's near you, be sure to catch it!

A lot of you are curious about how I spend my downtime. While I'm in LA I start my day like most, with a workout and breakfast. Depending on what I have lined out for that day, I may be reading scripts, or preparing material for an afternoon audition. If it's a slow day I will usually hit the pool, hang out at the golf course for a quick round, shoot some hoops or take in a game of volleyball. The night is always full of fun, with City Walk for dinner and a show and hitting some of the great clubs LA has to offer with friends.

DOWNTIME BACK HOME

Home is a little different. Life has more responsibilities now that I'm a homeowner and husband! The day starts out pretty much the same with a workout and breakfast. I start with a run and hit the lap pool that is in our housing addition. There are still scripts to read and auditions are put on tape instead of me having to run all over LA. If there is interest after the tape, then I will fly into LA to meet with the producers and hopefully go to the next level. Recreation at home is pretty much the same but without the smog! I shoot hoops and play volleyball with a group of guys, we hit the lake in my boat, and golf is always part of the week for me and Micol. She's taken up the game. I don't think she really likes it that much, she just likes being with me. In preparation for honing my skills for work, I take guitar once a week. Everyone is waiting for the rebirth of the musical I think. As an actor you have to be a triple threat. You never know when your work might take you to New York for a live theatre role or you will have to play the guitar or sing in a film. You just need to be ready to step up if the opportunity is there.

WEBSITE REVAMPED

I hope all of you are enjoying the new site that Bob and Troy have worked so hard to revamp and revise. I try to keep everything current and mix things up a bit so that my official site will always give you up to date info on where I'm at and what I'm up to. The next newsletter will have plenty of pics from my latest travels. I plan to hot air balloon in Utah and tandem sky dive in Tucson, so stay tuned for some action shots next time around!

Until after the holidays…Keep rockin' steady, keep writing and remember I still check in on you on the website message board from time to time, so keep posting too.
